Back at the end of April / beginning of May in a lockdown induced fever dream I came up with the idea of climbing to the highest point in each of the 32 Scottish Council areas. I'm now doing it to raise money and awareness for Doctors Without Borders, if you'd like to learn more go to the bottom of the report.
Onto today's hill though Meikle Says Law (535m) which is the highest point in East Lothian and the greater Lammermuir hills.
Compared to some of my previous walks on this challenge, this one was a breeze and very enjoyable. Initially, I had planned to follow the route as it is described in the walkhighlands guide, which follows a very well made path up to the top of the hill and then descends via a pathless boggy path, but after the bogs of the previous day on Darrach Hill I decided otherwise and just descended the same route I came up on.
There's actually not that much to say about this walk, as it just follows a very well made path all the way to the top, throughout the whole walk I never even met another single person despite the fact that it was an incredibly warm sunny day, the only thing worth mentioning is that there are 5 rivers that must be forded, but with the use of some stepping stones and a little bit of acrobatics they can pretty easily be crossed, although I imagine they might be considerably more difficult in spate conditions.

The path that leads all the way to the top.

The first crossing, best crossed on the smaller path to the left,

The second crossing, easiest at the right and then onto the grass verge.

The third river, best crossed just before it goes downhill on the left.

The fourth and hardest river to cross, best crossed at the far end on the left.

For the fifth and final crossing, use the stepping stones on the left and then onto the grass verge.
All the river crossings come in pretty quick succession after about 2.5km, after crossing the river a few times the path starts to pretty quickly ascend up and around the base of the hill and then around to the back and onto the summit.
At the top there is a trig and a windmill farm, thankfully the windmills don't obscure any of the good views.

To the north, there are good views all the way down to the coast and Bass Rock.

The west with the Pentlands and some of the outskirts of Edinburgh.

Again looking north from the trig and a cairn.
And that's it really, there's not much else to say, I went back down the same way I came up again crossing the rivers.

The route profile.
Lastly, I wanted to paste in the blurb about my challenge to climb all the council area tops and why I'm now doing it for charity, if that's not for you, consider this the end of the post, thanks for reading.
My names Conlyn and I'm a pharmacy student, living and working in Scotland.
Like most people since the start of the pandemic, I've been incredibly thankful for the amazing health service we have in this country and all they have done through the pandemic. Unfortunately not everywhere is as lucky as we are here, that's why I'm raising money for Doctors Without Borders who have been working tirelessly throughout this pandemic treating people where no one else will.
Doctors Without Borders work across more than 70 countries providing lifesaving treatment when people need it most, no matter the situation, come war, natural disaster, humanitarian crisis or global pandemic, Doctors Without Borders will be there.
That's why I'm aiming to climb to the highest point in each of the 32 Scottish Council Areas in an attempt to raise some money.
The journey will take me over 220miles across 29 different hikes into some of the most remote and rugged terrains the country has to offer.
