Meall Greigh, Meall Garbh and An Stuc

Weather forecast looked good so we decided to give this a go- really did not fancy doing An Stuc if the weather/visability was poor. Parked in Ben Lawers Hotel car park at very respectable 8.00am: game on.
The walk up is described in very positive terms and I have to say as an approach it is very impressive. Just in case you are not sure which way to go- help is at hand.

As we left the Lawers Burn and headed up to the ridge the skies were clearing and the sun was out.

Heading up to to Meall Greigh the views were amazing.

Heading over to Meall Garbh, the sun was out and the wind had dropped.

We even had someone for company

A great ascent up Meall Garbh - most enjoyable even though the cloud had made an appearance and it looked like the great morning was going to turn into not such a good afternoon. From Meall Garbh we had been loocking forward to the views over An Stuc, but it was now in mist - oh jings.

But it did clear - a bit. Main thing was we could see where we were going and how we wer going to do it.

We had read it was a tricky ascent but we felt the residual snow made it easier to get up - no wet rock etc.

Actually, there was more snow than we thought with a snowy edge but a clear top.

Great views over to the route we had done the previous day - in not so clear weather: Meall Corranaich and Meall a Choire Leith.

Having done Ben Lawers last time we were up in Scotland we headed down to the Lochan just after An Stuc. This was done all the quicker by bum slide.

Done
And soon we were making our of the hill surrounded by fantastic views basking in sunshine.

A great day: mountains and weather.

Perhaps the only comment is that the bridge over the Lawers burn is not so good if you are a short @r$e

Making it look easy - NOT!

One last thing to do after such a great day.

Great report and photos! An Stuc does look very steep, but we are looking forward to doing these at some point over the summer, hope we get some nice blue skies as well 8)

Really enjoyed this and your other posts from your visit to this fine area. Good to see you were rewarded with some great weather following the earlier not so good conditions! :D

Love the photos of the An Stuc ascent and the bum slide, wonderful. 8)

I like the pics - they bring back memories, but not good ones of An Stuc. I was climbing Meall Greigh, Meall Garbh, Meall Corranaich and Meall' a Choire Leith and it just happened to be in the way. It was just before it was added to the Munros Tables in 1997 and it was the most horrible ascent from the East, on mostly very wet and very steep grass. The only obvious sign of a path of any kind was the slightly worn grass and there wasn't much to hang on to. I was so glad to get to the top of that one.

Fab report and photos - I do love a good panorama :D

The An Stuc ascent didn't look too bad in the snow - a definite path to follow and presumably the snow wasn't rock hard ice. It took me 2 or 3 attempts when I did this (in May, only the odd patch of snow) and I very nearly turned around there.

Cheers.

The snow was really good: solid and muckle foot holds and the ice axe placement was solid so, although steep, steady away and we were up.
I could not believe there was a path up. Wow!

I just love bumslides. Deliberately bought my winter walking trousers with reinforced 'backside'
