After a long day on the Five Sisters on Saturday I was pretty tired and the wet weather looked set to continue so I decided on a fairly short climb including the three Munros north of the Lundie car park. Tired legs and the low cloud meant that I turned around at the bealach before Sail Chaorainn, so will have to come back!

Beautiful view back towards the Lundie car park and over Loch Cluanie

L (4).jpg
The path up from the old military road is definitely well marked

L (7).jpg
At least you could see the tops today, though still damp underfoot and low cloud - on the track up to Carn Ghluasaid

L (9).jpg
Nice of someone to mark the path over the rock with a line of boulders

L (10).jpg
Spot the ptarmigan

L (12).jpg
Sun and blue sky definitely trying to make an appearance after a wet few days

L (13).jpg
On the final tromp up the summit plateau I couldn't get the 'Mr Creosote' Monty Python sketch out of my head with a slight twist - 'Just one more little hill before the summit sir?' - 'No, no I couldn't possibly..'

L (17).jpg
Unfortunately I was still muttering this and chuckling to myself as this fell runner surprised me as he overtook me on the final few metres to the summit.

L (20).jpg
Thankfully the views were spectacular down the north side as the cloud lifted, so I could pretend I wasn't completely mad for being there.

L (30).jpg
Unfortunately it didn't last long, the cloud descended again and it was raining on the climb up to Sgurr nan Conbhairean

The cloud stayed low and it was raining and cold by the time I reached the bealach up to Sail Chaorainn and I decided I just couldn't face another clouded-in summit, so I retraced my steps and headed for the return path over Meall Breac.

L (31).jpg
Looking down to Gorm Lochan from the bealach to the N - time for lunch.

L (33).jpg
I was very grateful to pick up this little cairn at the top of the steep descent on the Meall Breac, at about 600 m, where I emerged back out of the cloud base.

L (36).jpg
Is it inevitable that the sun breaks out as soon as you're down?

L (38).jpg
Crossing the Allt Coire nan Clach was a dicey affair on the wet rock

L (39).jpg
Though the waterfalls were spectacular.

L (40).jpg
Sundew plants on the side of the Old Military Road on the way back.

I was back to the car park for an early afternoon nap - definitely a round I'm planning to repeat soon - as well as take in the other three Munros on the full circuit.
