Because of lockdown and gaining the dreaded COVID10 (pounds) :( I hadn't been out on the hills for 18months. But now that we are a few days away from September I thought I better get out and do some small hills to get my legs back into practice and start sheading the unnecessary additional weight.

I wanted to make use of the weather while it lasted so I headed out to Benaquhallie for a nice afternoon out.

I had tried to come here before and wanted to park in the Quarry like many of the other walk reports suggested but it was locked and I couldn't find another suitable place. I headed for the quarry again today and found again it was locked, but this time I had a backup plan.

I turned around and theres a small farm road heading up to Upper Daige/Upper Broomhill where I found the easiest and best track up.

I parked next to an old ruin farm house and headed into the trees following the landrover track.

Keep following the track and very shorty you will reach the gate. This is your last chance for a widdle so use the trees to your advantage, I wish I did!

The track continues and you will reach a small stream and some metal trailers.

Keep following the track and soon you will see a track on your left that runs up the hill parallel with a stone wall.

A short gradual climb up the hill and you will reach the Cairn and the views accross the Aberdeenshire countryside including a glimps at Bennachie and Castle Fraser.

A beautiful short walk to do on any day, would be perfect on a frosty or snowy day. Happy to be back in the hills! :D :D :D :D :D

Used this route and start point.

A word of note whilst there is space for one car to park next to unused shed without blocking any access this parking is in somebody’s property there is a lived in cottage just the other side of the dilapidated barn.

Wasn’t entirely comfortable parking here but did it anyway :D
