Parked half a kilometre west of the ski centre. Easyish first 550m of ascent to the gondola station though this necessitated some care in avoiding the bike tracks. From the gondola station I headed south east up easy grassy slopes but this became steeper and more difficult higher up with boulders and scree to negotiate, not to mention frequent stops to catch my breath!
Once onto the main ridge it was an easy stroll to the summit plateau while gazing down into the occasional gully, but no sign of the hoped for inversion of or the cloud dipping or breaking. Encountered one tent at the summit and a "woof" and a "shoosh" from inside.
Briefly considered continuing to Aonach Beag but thought better of it; come back another day I thought.
There was the feintest hint of cloud thinning above and a glimpse or two of breaks that kept me drawing out the remainder of the return along the ridge but to no avail. I could not will the cloud to lift or part and so, reluctantly, I set off back downhill. It didn't take long, though, to drop below the cloud level and then I did get something more interesting to see; there was a string of mist patches forming and rising from ground/low level in an arc from the ski station to near Fort William.
