Plodda falls
Located in the Glen Affric National Nature Reserve near Tomich in the Inverness-shire, Scotland. PLodda falls is one of Scotland’s hidden treasures,
with a spectacular waterfall cascading past towering trees.
Getting here is quite an adventure:
The falls are 5 miles (8km) beyond the tiny village of Tomich, along a narrow road.
The Coach House Café in Tomich serves snacks, and there are places to eat and a shop in Cannich.
Please note there are no cafés or shops near Plodda falls.
After a while the tarmac road stops, and the road is just a forest track – keep going and you’ll reach the car park!
there are 2 walking trails - 'Tweedmouth walk' and 'Falls walk'.
There is also a short walk that will take you to breath taking view right over the top of the Falls!.
Hike Mostly on firm gravel surface, with uneven sect
ions that may be narrow, grassy or muddy.
Steep slopes with some stone steps. Includes some exposed tree roots.
Take care on the rising path as you pass the rocks covered in mosses and ferns and mushrooms.
there are 4 stages to the waterfalls.
STAGE 1 - The track heads downhill passing some magnificent Douglas Fir trees, some of the highest in Scotland.
Trees from this wood were used for the masts of Captain Scott's ship Discovery, now berthed in Dundee. you will find a stage 1 of waterfall cascades
STAGE 2 - Walk through the woods could give you a ‘fairy-tale’ feel. The falls have a wooden viewing platform that hangs out over the top so you can see
straight down.
and you will able to get a best view from the wooden viewing platform – look over the edge if you dare!
STAGE 3 - The view of spectacular 46 m high waterfall can be seen. as Water spray smears your face,
from this place you can see the wooden platform edging out the cliff above the waterfall.
The Falls are truly impressive from the bottom of this path, plunging vertically for around forty metres into a twisting gorge.
STAGE 4 - We don't recommend this stage as you may have to cross the river to get a full view of the waterfall.
Slippery stones, but worth effort to a get spectacular view of the full water fall and cascades down streams
