Beinn an Eoin
Posted: Sun Oct 17, 2021 3:21 pmWee trip to the NW yesterday with Beinn an Eoin on the Gairloch Estate being the target. The views up here are, when you get them, stunning. Set off from a wee car park just off the A832 near Gairloch, ready for the walk in (it certainly felt longer than the map showed).
We hit the Abhainn Loch na h-Oidhche which is supposed to be an easy crossing, this at 1st glance was flowing a bit higher and faster than we'd have like to keep our feet dry, had a look up and down stream for an alternative before just going for it, it was fine.
On the other side once the track levelled off, we headed cross country to start the climb, not much in the way of paths but we did find the odd section where people had, usually quite reassuring. A soggy wander up beside a small burn tumbling downhill hill which emerged next to a massive sandstone slab, which reminded me of the summit area of nearby Beinn a Chearcaill.
The way up does look imposing however there's a breach in the defences, albeit steep & soggy with traces of a path which brings you out on the broad ridge about 2.5km from the summit, and wow, what a view, Slioch, Fisherfields, Torridon giants, mountain porn.
An easy walk along the ridge to within about 500m of the summit, which look imposing at 1st but a path zigzags its way up the hill before an easy and at one point 'airy' walk to the summit, with some of the best views I've seen anywhere in Scotland outside of winter.
Going back was just a reversal of the route up. Time put pay to any micro notions of doing Baosbheinn as well.
