solo outing on return from Aberlour, Mash Tun weekend, snow gates closed to Tomintoul so change plans and return back to Cromdale. Park in Cromdale Park car park then head up minro road until turn off towards castle then head thro farm and follow track around edge of trees to 450m. lots snow then head off track and head uphill past grouse butts to 1st cairn (George VII) in 2hrs. Tough going at times, compass reversed WTF, luckily got OS map on phone and fence to follow. clag from 450m so no views on ridge at all and slog thro deepening snow, luckily occasional respite on firmer snow to raise flagging spirits. Reach Queen victoria cairn and Trig after 3hrs, quick sheltered break for cuppa and pastries and return the same way, footprints nearly obscured in places. back a cairn by 3.15pm and back onto track at edge trees by 3.30 and out of clag again and setting sun. Enjoyable yomp back to car and drive home on improved roads, and welcome arrival on A9 and 60mph drive home for 7pm.
