The route has been requested by the one and only PeteR, hopefully it may tempt you out?
A solo outing as my 2 colleagues were both unavailable all weekend, a big decision when and where to go?
Friday forecast looked by far and away the best day so that was easy, next I didn't fancy doing a hill or hills that I would have to revisit with George & Parminder.
I opted for West Lomond, I have tackled it numerous times from Gateside and the east so after studying the map I plotted a "new" route for me at least.
There is a small car park that will take about 5 vehicles and even has picnic benches.
No need for an early start so it was a leisurely drive to the car park - once I found it, along the single track road east of Gateside.
The blurb at the car park
West Lomond in the background
The first 1km is through a nice woodland
Good path
Out of the woodland and heading slightly uphill
The way ahead
The path on the right in the distance crosses the glen, I stayed left and went via John Knox's Pulpit
Whilst wandering uphill I was constantly scanning the slopes of West Lomond for a safe direct descent route
Interesting rock formations, weather beaten
Top of the glen
More interesting rocks
Summit area of West Lomond, there is a minor path that heads almost directly uphill - naturally I opted for it
The boggy path was nice and firm
East Lomond appearing and the 3 reservoirs not far from Glenrothes
Loch Leven now appearing
The way uphill is rather obvious
The 3 reservoirs from higher up, also shows the angle of ascent
The summit trig on West Lomond now visible
East Lomond & the 3 reservoirs
Looking NE across Falkland to Freuchie and beyond
Looking north, Gateside etc
Loch Leven
A few photo's of the rock formations at John Knox's Pulpit
Looking down from the Pulpit where I started eating my lunch, but it was too cold so I soon left
Looking up from the path below
A few camera photo's all zoomed, just a shame the zoom on my phone is pretty useless.
The Tay appearing
The bigger hills to the north looking lovely and white
Loch Leven zoomed
Really enjoyed the walk, naturally the weather helps. Visibility is always so much better in the cooler months, that is if you can get a dry day of course.
