Met with Moray Mountaineering Club for the first time at their Christmas meet
Lovely group of people
Walk set off along Loch an Eilian and branched off towards Loch Gamhna. We took the higher path which brings you to hut.
We left the path and turned left here walking past the hut and into the forest. The path ended here and we had to just wade through heather up the the hill, It was quite steep and tiring. Made our way to near the top of coire Follais where we found a narrow path. Crossed the burn and carried on up the hill through the trees and on to open heather again. Path was narrow, steep and icy in places. Once more wading through heather to get to the top. Really tiring and hard work but rewarded with the most stunning cloud inversion and broken spectre so worth every minute. Had our lunch at the top in glorious sunshine, small patches of ice, no wind.
No path on the way down and so we followed the shoulder and made our way down. Back into cloud very quickly and big drop in temperature so had to navigate all the way down wading through heather that got deep in the trees.
Finally made it to the path back at the loch side and back to car park
A couple of nasty slips and falls during the day but thankfully everyone was ok
A very tiring, unexpectedly long walk but great to be out in the hills. Millie was perfect.
