As of December 2021, on the first part of the walk going up, many massive pine trees have fallen across the path, blocking the way. We had to leave the path and go round quite a few times, sometimes across boggy part of the forest, sometimes across dead branches. It was neither easy or pleasant and we lost a lot of time, and had to cut the walk short, taking the path going down to Bridge of Balgie (the tearoom was shut!). This was not mentioned on the boards at the start of the walk. Shame as it is very peaceful and beautiful up there.

Storm Arwen has affected most forest walks in Perthshire, Angus and Aberdeenshire and it's going to take a month or two before trails are cleared and back to normal. Many are impassable.

Shame so many trees have been lost. But with all due respect, what did you expect? You were in a wild, remote and beautiful corner of the southern highlands and it is emphatically not a managed, manicured landscape. If you go out on the heels of a major winter storm you have to be prepared for the consequences of that.
On the positive side you’ve seen the disruption that nature can cause at first hand. I’d be coming away treasuring that experience.
