Torr Achilty from a bridge across Black Water near Contin with the Kids (8, 11, 17)Stats:Total distance - 4.44 km
Total time - 2h39m
Altitude gain - 224 m
With a height of 252m Torr Achilty is not one of the very high hills. But the view is nice and it is worth it to go there.
To avoid high bracken
the best time is winter.
We parked at a bridge across Black Water near Contin:
From A835 take this way close to Achilty Guest House:
Continue left...:
...and walk past the lovely cows
(Torr Achilty in the front):
Behind the cottage go through the gate and walk uphill (red line on the photo):
First along the fence:
We could see a faint path:
Higher where the trees start you can see a distinct muddy path. Do not follow this one but walk further left across two streams:
Further there is a mix of animal paths, heather, blueberries and grass. We just followed the GPS more or less towards to the summit. The walk was not very difficult just in some places there was deep heather but not for long distances:
Little Wyvis, Ben Wyvis, Contin:
Conni on the top (Ben Wyvis behind):
We tried to take a different way down but it was not going very well, therefore we returned on the same path we took up.
Loch Achonachie:
A still life with a puddle
