Ben Wyvis

Whilst enjoying a rare April camp at Bunchrew Caravan/Campsite with the previous day spent down in Glen Affric, it was time to head north and climb Ben Wyvis. Far less remote and likely to involve seeing others on the hill, this mountain seemed a fine and fitting contrast. A beautiful morning presented itself and it would have wrong to have had a lazy day at the tent, as tempting as that can be.

An Caber (the antler) in sight and what a fine climb it was with really quite dramatic falls off to the south.

A fun and twisting path with exciting views, and it certainly gets the blood pumping.

Looking back to the Cairn on An Cabar as we head towards the summit 2km away to the northeast.

The final stretch across Glas Leathad Mor (Ben Wyvis summit).

A fine walking plateau over general soft mossy ground, allowing a fine change of pace after a the steep climb. Coire na Feola appears as the trig points nears.

Steps retraced and back down towards the carpark.

An fine relaxing evening followed in Inverness and back at the campsite before a lazy beautiful Sunday.

It looks like you had a perfect day for the hills, Bod! Definitely not one to laze at the camp site! Great pictures - Ben Wyvis looks a much more interesting hill that I had imagined - and a fair old climb to get to the plateau. I've got it my to do list now!

It is . I thought it would be a bit drab but, even in mist and rain, i enjoyed it. With views it must be even better .

Did you contemplate going on to Tom a' Choinnich and then descending by the Allt a' Gharbh Bhaid?

Yes we did, but with getting back to camp late the previous day, we opted for a swift retreat. Not my usual choice to double back on an appraoch route if avoidable, but enjoyed this one! I think it was the nice mossy plateau and the solid flat slab steps on An Cabar.

Glad to see you made the most of your early foray onto the hills. And a damn fine hill as well. Like us you were blessed with the weather..wasn't it great.
