Struie Ridge Circuit from Rheguile near Edderton with Kids (8, 11, 17)Stats:Total distance - 9.96 km
Total time - 5h12m
Walking time - 3h11m
Altitude gain - 330 m
Just to confuse people there is Struie and Struie Hill (with a mast on the top). But only Struie is a Marlyn.
Struie can be climbed very easily from B9176 (Struie road) by a short walk. But it is worth walking along the ridge which stretches between Struie and Struie Hill above Dornoch Firth.
The curcuit starts at Rheguile farm. It is probably easier to walk it anticlockwise but an annoying SW wind was forecast, therefore we opted to do it clockwise and walk along the ridge in the wind direction. It proved to be a good choice.
We parked up at Rheguile farm - Struie Hill behind:
There are three roads, we took the middle one towards Garbad and Pollagharrie:
Up to Pollagharrie it is quite a good track. The only thing was it covered with ice in some places:
As we passed Polgarrie the track became more muddy. (on the map is Pollagharrie House but on the sign on the gate was Polgarrie:
Past Polgarrie we left the track behind this gate:
There is a burn we had to cross which was quite easy:
On the OS map is drawn a track from the burn to the foot of Struie. It is not easy to follow this track because in many places it is overgrown with gorse or heather or grass, and in some places filled with the water. Anywhy we tried to follow the track as much as possible and as far as possible:
As we reached something like a fork we branched right and soon continued pathless towards the summit:
On the upper part, close to the summit, there is a rocky section, nothing tricky, we managed to avoid the steep rocks.
View back - red line along the track:
Chilling on the summit of Struie:
Conni on the top - Struie ridge with Struie Hill behind, Dornoch Firth:
Left behind - a Graham Beinn Tharsuinn

Hills behind Struie road:
From Struie we continued along the ridge towards Struie Hill. Along the ridge is leading Struie Hill Ridge Path. The path was quite muddy covered with snow but still walkable. We walked more or less alongside the path.
Closer to Struie Hill:
From Struie Hill we returned to the saddle and walked back to Rheguile through Leachonich.
Track from the saddle at Struie Hill:
Gate at Leachonich - behind the gate left along the good road:
It was a good winter walk.
