Càrn nam Bad shouldn't have been that enjoyable hill but we had a great time on this walk even allowing for the active tree felling and very prominent power line!
The hardest part of this walk was finding somewhere good to park! We ended up driving a bit past the start (~0.5k) towards Cannich and stopping in a little forest track off on the left were there were spaces for a couple of cars without blocking the track. We then walked along the road which has a good verge on it to the gate at the start of the walk.
We walked along the very good logging track all the way to Loch Càrn nam Badan and then left the path to go under the pylon in front of the hill. Sadly the forest on the right of the track had been recently felled so it looked a real mess, but that is what the forest is for! There was even one lone guy moving logs around with his tractor grab, even on a Saturday!
- Pylon we went towards once we left the path
It was a bit boggy between the path and the pylon but once we got to the pylon it was fine. From the base of the pylon there was a very faint track/animal path going diagonally up the hill towards the small dip between the two tops. In some places the track was very obvious and in others it was rather imaginary! It was very simple walking and less than 100m ascent from this point.
- Kirsteen and Dill at the top of second hill of the year in the second week!
The views from the the top would have been great on other days but it was a bit grey so my phone didn't do it justice. So just the view of the loch!
- Loch Càrn nam Badan from the top
After a brief stop at the top and a very wee snack we went back down the way we came.
Can't really explain why I enjoyed this wee hill so much, but I really did. Think maybe because it was a nice easy gentle walk but we still managed to get out and up, away from everyone. From a dog perspective it was great, just a couple of stray grouse and Dill was off lead the whole time.
I think this would be a really good starter hill for people thinking about doing "solo" walks, you have the sense of satisfaction of having to do a bit of path finding but can take confidence from the vast majority of the walk being on a nice track.
