That looks great. I’ve been on this hill from the north & the west but I think I’ll try your road next time. Thank you.

Thanks very much!

Yes it is a great hill and a very enjoyable route - either for the scenery, or if you fancy an easier way to the top.

Following an enquiry about this route, I'm adding a photo here which may be useful. it shows the stile that I mentioned, alongside a gate. Might be useful for anyone thinking about this route.

Thanks so much for this explanation!
Looking forwards to taking this route tomorrow and this contained everything I needed to know about approaching from the south 👍

Good to see this, as I was wondering what the southern routes were like. I'll be giving this route a go!

Indeed a brilliant route! Not that I've done it, but I bagged the corbett Meall na Fearna from this direction and mused on how interesting (and apparently underrated) it would be to do Chroin this way, as I passed by. Pity I had already done it the day before, from the south WEST - Beinn Each - but also a brilliant route! Congrats to you on having this route in the bank, though. this was the approach at the end of April .https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=112162

Did this earlier today, what can I say…fantastic and many thanks to half man half titanium for posting this easy to follow guide.
The grass path was such a welcome change from the usual bulldozed tracks, however I would say be aware that the when traversing through the grass and fern covered slopes it’s akin to a jungle! I’m 5’7” (not the tallest I know 😂) but there were many times the grasses and ferns were above shoulder height! It was also very, very wet underfoot at these stages so this is definitely one for long trousers, long sleeves and sturdy boots.
Otherwise it was a brilliant day out in the hills, great way to get away from the crowds (never seen a single other person today, had the whole place to myself, while I seen all the ant like walkers scurrying over the giant ant hill that is Ben Vorlich!
In case anyone is interested, I left the car at 11am, made the summit at 1:30pm, had around 30 minutes for lunch and to enjoy the beautiful views and was back at the car for 4pm. A wonderful way to spend a day and definitely recommend this walk to others. 👍🏻😊🏔

Brilliant description of the walk, thank you, really helped us as we would have been unclear at a few points, sadly we has to turn back close to the summit, just at the rocky part due to thick fog

Duly undertaken on a wet day in March! The traverse path was a bit wet & slimy and I kept wondering why my feet were so wet. On taking my boots off I found a 4cm split just to the side of the lace anchors… time for new boots!

Lovely spacious ridge, especially in the descent with the wind at my back.

Thanks for mapping this out and sharing. Did this yesterday - nice alternative to usual route and the path's pretty clear all the way up these days

Great review. I’m considering combining the bike with the walking on a fine day. Looking at strava looks like the first 2 miles could be done on bike, would you agree?

Yes, it's a decent Landy track to the bothy: would be fine on a mountain bike.
