Last Saturday we decided it was time that we finally went up Ben Cleuch. We only live half an hour from Tilly so there really is no excuse. The plan was to do the walk as described on the forum by going up the Law, around to Ben Cleuch and then following on to Ben Ever before dropping back down to the Mill Glen. However, Dave (father in law) decided that going up The Law was a bit much for him but would come if we went the other way. So not to make him feel excluded we went clockwise and this meant that we had a quartet for the journey (Cameron, Mrs D, Dave and myself).
We parked just behind the Woolpack pub in glorious sunshine.
A word of warning, the actual Mill Glen path appears to be closed. its not very well marked at the bottom of the path but when you get to the top before the wooden bridge on the way to The Law there is a chain across and a sign warning of a danger of falling rocks. So, if you go they way that we did you go past the quarry. The glen is very picturesque
Once out of the glen it was just a case of plodding up the path towards Ben Ever. Cameron and I managed to find a geochache around the top which was a fun diversion.
We then headed down and then over to Ben Cleuch. The climb up was probably the toughest stage of the day but it was relatively brief. This is the view back to Ben Ever.
We stopped for lunch at the Ben Cleuch. There was hazy views all around but the summit itself is a bit dull (the Ochills generally don't do summits very well). Cameron and I stopped for the money shot.
A view to the Law from Ben Cleuch
We then followed the path over to The Law and then back down the hill which really was quite steep (I could see why Dave was not so keen to go up it).
Finally a nice spot where a wooden bridge crossed the Gannel Burn.
