Up at 7, left the house just before 8, up the M9 to Stirling onto the A84 Callander road cutting off just after Blair Drummond safari park through Aberfoyle
past Loch Ard and Loch Chon then down towards Inversnaid past Loch Arklet parking up at the RSPB centre at Inversnaid Garrison arriving at 9:30. Weather was fine and dry, patches of blue sky but some low cloud on the highest tops. Set off at 9:40 along a vehicle track then cutting off up the hillside at first through an area which had fairly recently been planted out with new trees. The going was pretty rotten, thick tussocky grass, water filled pot holes and generally soggy and squelchy, no path whatsoever all the way up to the bealach, turned left/Northwards here and again the going was much the same all the way to the summit. A guy was already there and we spent about 30 to 40 minutes taking photos and chatting, he was about 60, from Edinburgh, had compleated the munros in 2014 with his wife, he,d started in 1984, he,d also done about 130 corbetts. He left to go out to the lower hill to the South, Stob an Fhainne as I was going to do too. Hung around for another 15 minutes to see if the cloud would move from The Arrochar Alps to the West and had a pasta meal, the views were not bad, could see some of the Crianlaraich munros immediately to the North and could also see Ben Vorlich and Stuch a'Chroin, Ben Ledi & Ben Venue to the East and SouthEast and Ben Lomond directly to the South. As I was leaving the summit met an English guy on his way up and these were the only two people I met. Back down to the bealach then continued on climbing gently all the way up to Stob an Fhainne where I met the Edinburgh guy again after another 10 minute chat I headed off down the steep grassy slopes to the South with good views of Loch Arklet and Ben Lomond, who,s summit was now clear of cloud. Stepped in a pothole up past the ankle again and eventually got back down to the RSPB centre at 3:50. 6.75 miles taking 6 hours 10 minutes. Drove back the same way, was going to get pies from the butchers in Aberfoyle but it was closed. Home about 5:30.
