Followed the walk description route starting at NN707614. There is not much room for more than 3 cars without blocking the gate to a field. There is more parking a short distance along the road on the opposite side for a couple more cars and some more opportunities further along the B847. If following Walkhighlands route then the last couple of miles is on the B847road so there is no disadvantage to parking further along the road.
Lying on the ground in the parking area was a notice from last July advising of bracken being sprayed by airplane and requesting that you should seek alternative walks on these days. I don't know if this is an annual event but if planning to walk this route at the end of July it might be worth contacting Dunalastair Estate office to find out if there is any such activity.
- The notice of bracken spraying.
The start of the walk is to cross the B847 road and go through a gate on the other side onto a good stalkers path.
Unfortunately I was not on the stalkers path for long before I had to leave it and start the ascend up a steep hillside covered in bracken and heather which was made easier at this time of year as there is no growth.
- The view back down the hill to where the car is parked with Schiehallion in the distance.
It is not long until the corbett Beinn a' Chuallaich comes into view.
A stalker's path appear intermittently across a bog approach to the base of Meall nan Eun.
- It is now a matter of picking a line through the snow to the summit of Meall nan Eun.
On reaching the ridge there is a cairn heading off to the north but I was not for making this detour today. There is a small ring of stones near the summit of Merall nan Eun.
- The summit of Meall nan Eun with corbett Beinn a' Chuallaich in the dsitance.
Only one snow patch to traverse to the summit of the corbett.
Making progress up to the summit and the view back to route taken with Meall nan Eun in front of Loch na Callaich.
The trig point and summit cairn of Beinn a' Chuallaich with Schiehallion in the distance.
There is a good stalkers path to follow from the summit but this disappears and then reappears further down towards Tom na Moine.
The stalkers path improves further down the hill and eventually goes through a gap in a dry stane dyke.
Not long after passing through the wall the path leads onto a nice grass track.
Once you get down to ground level and near the farmhouse the track is not so good. After walking though this mud there was no chance of anyone stopping to give me a lift back to the car which is parked just under 2 miles along the B847.
