Up Glen Shee again (think I should move there) to walk Ben Gulabin. I’m quite new to walking in the heat and today was the first really hot day that gave me a taster of what it would be like to walk in these conditions and I can tell you it was hard (for me). I know although Ben Gulabin is a relatively short, steep-ish ascent, that sun was fierce as I climbed reminiscing of the days gone by when the snow crunched under my spikes.

Some water to guddle in (tempted to paddle I was)

Found another path (not on the map) leading to the left and straight up the hill instead of the route leading up to Gulabin hut. A few bees buzzed around as I walked along. They must be a different species from the one’s I saw on Rannoch Moor. Or maybe things are just bigger over there in the west...

Turned left and headed up.

Mez way, way, way off in the distance trying to catch a hare. That Wile E Coyote...

Huge trough (why do this?)

Image

Near the top, I took the right hand path. Some people in the distance

View back down

Not long before reaching the top. Met with a very gentle breeze.

Kissed the Cairn and sat down to quench my thirst...

15 minute break then headed home

The road (to the left is the way to Braemar...)

Ben Gulabin, a delightful walk... :D

Hi MW,
Lovely pictures. I think the trough is a drainage ditch to stop the path being washed away? :D Walked in the heat last year, fickin nightmare, dried grape at the finish   Nice :D
