This was a hasty backup plan after an aborted attempt at the ring of fire. Whilst on the ring of fire walk I noticed pain in my left knee after about 2km so decided quickly it be unwise and unsafe to continue. Whilst on route to Dumfries we came upon this monument in memory of Alexander Murray, a local shepherd boy who later became Professor of Oriental Languages at Edinburgh University. Chewie and i also went and see some Covenanters Martyrs graves and it was good to explain some our history that is not taught. The memorial is to four Covenanters

John Gordon

William Heron

William Stuart

John Wallace

A bit of a shame as there is no sign from the road marking this loaction.
