A lovely walk but made harder on early stretch by the desecration of the plantation - so many trees have been torn down by the storms earlier in 2022. They took the fence with them so a new fence has been built along side the old one. The route follows the gap in between but there is still a lot of debris which you need to clamber through- often on boggy ground.
Don’t let this put you off though- a steady climb to the summit reveals 360 degree views. Loch Beanie was beautifully clear and we lunched by the boathouse.
The instruction to head for the lonesome pine is a good one- after that the route is a little unclear but you end up on the Cataren trail surrounded by highland cattle and very woolly sheep. Also more evidence of storm damage.
