An Cabar from Strathbran Lodge near Achanalt with Kids (9, 11, 17 yo.)

Stats:
Total distance - 9.3 km
Total time - 5h15m
Walking time - 2h40m
Altitude gain - 435 m
Terrain:
0.6 km - road
3.0 km - good forestry track
1.1 km - ATV track, boggy in many places
4.6 km - pathless, a mix of grass and short heather, boggy in some places

With small variations, we followed more or less in the footsteps of gld73 and Hills4dogs. Thanks for the reports :thumbup: .

We parked up in the layby near Strathbran Lodge and walked about 300 m towards the lodge to the start of the forestry track.

From the loch we continued pathless towards Pt. 503 m. The ground was a mix of short heather and grass, easily walkable.

From Pt 503 we headed further along the ridge to the top.

We spent about half an hour at the summit to have lunch and enjoy the views.

From the top of An Cabar we saw the end of the forestry track (red arrow), so we walked straight down to the track. The ground was a mix of grass and shorter heather, a bit boggy in many places:

From here we retraced our steps back to the car:

On the way back, my daughter was surprised by a hind which crossed the track just a few meters in front of her :thumbup: :
