A lovely Sunday walk along the coast of Great Bernera on the Isle of Lewis to Bosta/ Bostadh. We parked at Valasay/ Bhalasaigh. There’s only room for a couple of cars just by the foot bridge. The walk is well signposted and the posts along the route are always visible. Beware, though, as some of the old fence posts do look the way marked posts! The route is undulating with a little bit of scrambling but nothing too difficult. It can be a little boggy in places as well, but I’m sure one expects that. We passed on the way very old salmon or lobster traps. A great circular wall built to hold or catch fish. How they have managed to remain on the rocks for hundreds of years is a mystery. Near Bosta there is the remains of some traditional Blackhouses. Then, at Bosta, not only is it a beautiful beach, there is the reclaimed and rebuilt Iron Age Dwelling. It wasn’t open (because it was Sunday) when we arrived there. We returned the same way back to the car.
