Had a lovely holiday in Orkney and had some fun bagging some of the sub-2000s! First up was Wideford Hill. Plenty of parking at the leisure centre that seems to become home to motorhomes in the late afternoon and an easy route to follow with what would have been a pleasant walk through some young woodland had it not being pouring down, but despite the weather we continued on reaching the road and heading along to a gate following the farm track uphill with the wind blowing rain in our faces, finally easing off as we reached the road though the wind remained. At the small car parking area for the cairn we left the road and followed a muddy track to go round to the cairn first. It is possible to climb down into the cairn, but with the dogs and as I was on my own I stayed at the surface. Leaving the cairn we retraced our steps back to a gate but instead of following the path back round to the car park we took a path on the left just beyond a gate following that round and then cutting up to the summit on faint paths. The masts get in the way of the views and the wind made it difficult to stay in one place. Rather than following the road back down, we took a clear path down the side of the hill which came out near the WT station and not far from the farm track we came up on. At this point having been dried by the wind, the rain started up again and didn't leave for the rest of the return back to the car!
