I had set my sights on Meall Chuaich for awhile to complete the Drummochter Munros but I didn’t like the thought of a three mile walk in. Therefore, I took my electric bike in the back of my car but also didn’t want to park in the lay-by on the A9 as suggested in the WH description. It’s such a busy road so, instead, I parked at the petrol station in Dalwhinnie for £3 all day. This gave me space to put my wheel back onto my bike and sort my rucksack out. There’s a wee bridge on the opposite side of the road from the petrol station which gives access to the track alongside the aqueduct. The large gate is locked but there is a pedestrian gate at the side which allows bikes through. The track is a little rough for the first mile and another small gate but then it’s easy to cycle right to the foot of Meall Chuaich. About 4 miles each way.
The path is quite straight forward and easy to follow. A few boggy bits but nothing too bad. I’m slow and steady so it took me just short of two hours to get to the summit. An impressive large cairn dominates the flat plateau.

Yes, I have used the linking channel between Loch Chuaich and Loch Ericht a few winters back to get to Carn na Caim and onto the the hills out to Meall Chuaich. Opposite direction on the track beside the aqueduct and for me a park up at the entrance to the Cuaich cottages. :)
How is it to lift in and out of your motor with the power assisted bike....I am guessing that with having the wheel off the bike that you have to slide it into your Vehicle? I have still an old velo that can be easily lifted on and off the clip on rack thing for transporting.

It is a footer getting my bike in and out of my car but it’s too heavy for a bike rack which isn’t attached to a tow bar. But needs must! My main concern is locked gates as I’m not strong enough to to lift my bike over them, particularly when I’m on my own. 👍
