Be aware that despite the route being excellent, the car park has been chained off for no good reason.
We ended up parking well off the road well out side invavar , not blocking the access to anything and not in a passing place. We parked very considerately. There were several other walking groups who had done similar. The Perth and Kinross council had sent a parking warden out ( it’s pretty remote here!) to ticket all the cars. There is no signage warning you of this just a few overgrown old urban clearway signs 2 miles out side the village! I had to look the sign up in the Highway Code to be sure!
no alternate parking is provided as the car park is shut.
The fact that on a Sunday the wardens had traveled all this way must mean they know they are going to get victims of this and be able to issue lots of fines.
If the parking in the area was causing an actual issue then “no parking” signage would be in place. There is no alternate parking provided. You have have to park several miles away from the start of the route to avoid this, in fact we looked for a usable Parking spot on the return journey just to see how far the nearest alternate one was and gave up after 4 miles from the start of the walk.

We discussed this with several other walkers all who had fallen victims to this trap and the opinion was that the car park was shut off to deter people using the walk possibly in favour of those up the hill shooting deer during the staking season.
The ticketing is pretty clinical profiteering and a punishment for those wishing to exercise there right to roam.
It is shame, as it is a great route. Just not worth paying £60 in fines to do.

I walked the Glen Lyon Four on Sunday 6th October 2024. Original car park is still closed but I stayed nearby for the weekend so parking wasn’t a problem for me. I did notice a large lay-by, two thirds of a mile to the west of the start of the walk but I don’t know if there are any restrictions on duration of car parking there. There are no other parking spots in the vicinity as far as I can tell. There was no stalking on the day of my walk, despite signs suggesting otherwise. I’ve been told that stalking takes place only rarely on the estate, contrary to published information.

Well done both of you for getting the walk in, despite the issues with this route.

The access issue has been discussed a few times on Walkhighlands, most recently at https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=126105. I think there has also been a separate thread about the parking.

The situation further up the glen is totally different - there are car parks and clear information for walkers.

This is an old thread - the Walkhighlands route (and our Munros book) was amended to feature the new parking at the layby and the start point back in 2022.

Thanks Paul! TBH I noticed the change after I left my earlier comments. We were staying nearby so parking wasn’t an issue for me on the day. Good to know that day visitors can park 1km away.
