We enjoyed a day on Ben Mór Coigach on 26th April 2022; a wonderful mountain easily overlooked on account of its Graham status. However, the path that passes behind the house at Culnacraig was blocked by a new deer fence. There was no stile and the blocking of an established route for several hundred metres seemed rather antisocial in the absence of any supporting information.

How did you get past the fence? I notice this was early this year and we've had no other comment about the fence, so it may be that a stile has been added, but would be good to know if this was followed up.

Have you reported to Highland Council's access officer, Phil Waite? He's usually helpful and details here:

You can copy us in if you would be willing (editor@walkhighlands.co.uk). Normally I'd offer to forward but as this is a post not an email I can't!

I was up that way in September, walking Fhidhleir's north tops. I met three fellas who came down Ben Mor Coigach and mentioned the deer fence. They said they'd climbed over it, and were accosted by a man who told them they were in his garden. They said they muttered an apology and carried on.

I'm not sure of the exact line of the fence, but you can leave the Sgurr an Fhidhleir path at about the 300m mark and make a slightly rising traverse to cross the Allt nan Coisiche above the ravine and then head up towards Garbh Coireachan. However, the path behind the house is also the start/end of the Postie's Path to Blughasary, and shouldn't be blocked off!

There is a new deer fence, but I do not think that is a problem. There is a (sheep) path alongside the fence, boggy in places.

I would change the route description:

Follow the deer fence to the left of the house...:

... to its highest point and then head east aiming for the point where the Allt nan Coisiche changes direction as it emerges from a ravine and before it goes into the box canyon (GR NC070037):

Thanks - we've amended the description as was suggested, but really need to record a new GPX track passing around the fence.

If anyone has one it would be hugely appreciated if they could let us know so we can amend our route fully.

Many thanks - much appreciated. Suprising how little distance it is from the old way.
