Fancied a longer solo walk to start off hillwalking proper this year, but didn't fancy (as I'm sure many of you can relate to) £50 worth of petrol to go and do a new munro or 2. Figured out a route in the Kilpatricks that would be of interest from Old Kilpatrick out to The Whangie in a satisfying loop over most of the tops and alongside most of the bodies of water. Conditions weren't the best, and I got my first blisters in a few years (leak in one of my boots at fault), but had a really nice time and some time for reflection after a hectic period of socialising. I've also somehow never been to The Whangie, so was cool to finally see that.
Would recommend this as a longer route to people from Glasgow area who don't want to drive too far but still want that feeling of a bit of an adventure. Only part I really struggled with was the extremely boggy section from Burncrooks Reservoir to Duncolm, but that was during heavy rain and zero visibility when my blisters started to hurt, so I was probably just being grumpy.
Goal for January is to do similar 'bigger' rounds in the Campsies and the Ochils, which i'll post on here.

Cheers :D
