We found this very isolated hotel to begin the drive down the track before using the bikes. We saw parties of fishermen, but no walkers.
A good part of the track was pretty reasonable and it was a pleasant ride in good weather :)

Soon time to ditch the bikes and stop for lunch :)

Nice and clear for the views :D

We had a fairly uneventful hike to the top & admired the views, then it was time to get back to the bikes and a second lunch. :)

Ponyexpress was following behind, but she soon overtook me

But that was when we had our problem :?
She went a bit too fast and didn’t see a big cobble in the middle of the track
Over the handlebars she went :(
Blood all over her face. I thought the worst
Fortunately it was only flesh wounds. The helmet was cracked, so it saved her :)
Even the bike was okay. So we made our way very slowly back to the car. She has since slowed down on the bike :)

I did the track last summer with my bike and remember it very well, escpecially the big puddles I didn't like because one often can't see what's in it. I am always afraid of getting a puncture but to fall over and get hurt is much more serious. Fortunately ponyexpress was lucky!

She wasn’t in a puddle, she just was going to fast to see it , to be fair it was on a bend , tree lined  .

Thanks a lot for this report. The Pony Express must get through! Sounds distressing to happen and a long way from help that was fortunately not needed.
I'll wait for dry weather and prefer to go this northerly route. It seems a lot more fun.

It’s a great route, just don’t go too fast on the bike
