We had decided that for a spring break we would spend 10 days (thanks to the Bank Holidays) in Glencoe and see how many hills we could climb. As we knew that Stretch was up in the area we met him for a meal and a few beers at the Clachaig Inn, before agreeing to meet him and Gammy Leg Walker and Graham at 8.30 the next morning. Not realising how far you had to go down Glen Etive to get parked to do this walk we were a bit late but after apologies to the others we set off in bright sunshine down the farm road and over the bridge that crossed the river Etive. It wasn’t long before we got into our stride and shortly after crossed another bridge after a discussion as to whether were going to the correct way round. We actually did the walk the opposite to what was on WH website.

So we carried on heading south and then south east along a good path and soon the clothes started to be taken off as it was sweltering. We followed alt ceitlin and as we had good weather the ground was reasonably dry.

Before long we were starting to climb and that continued and got steeper as we got nearer to Coire Riabhach. It was tough going for me and suhowfar as this was only the second munro since last year. We were keeping in touch with the others and caught up when they stopped for a bite to eat. After we got there we left our rucksacks at the ridge top and made our way to the cairn of Meall nan Eun. The views were brilliant all the way round with such good weather.

Once we had collected our stuff we got going again heading towards Stob Coir’an Albannaich which looked impressive with a bit of snow still there and the ridge looking very prominent.

The way to it was straight over Beinn Tarsuinn helped by large stony slabs, and then towards a way up which led us to a point where we could get up and onto the ridge. Although looking fearsome the path was good and before long we were at the large cairn and claiming the second Munro of the day, and now looking to complete the circle heading steeply down the hill to a bealach which from there joined the path back to the bridge.

The way down, however, was littered with waterfalls and almost tropical colour of water.

But as we got nearer with the River Etive it became very boggy as you turned towards Coiletir and we had a couple of close shaves with bog and water which could have been comical and also kept to the higher ground to make sure we got back to the bridge and the farm road up to our cars.

Enjoyed the ridge walk and the impressive views from Meall nan Eun but a long and tiring day.

Good report Jockstar.

It's absolutely beautiful in Glen Etive, I was on the same hills the day after you.
