- At the top of Sgàirneach Mhòr
This weekend (staying at Kincraig with Glasgow University Mountaineering Club) saw both my planned walks uncompleted, with Saturday's attempt at Sgor Gaoith not making it past the subpeak of Geal-charn. Today's route was an ambitious one, I was encouraged to try Sgàirneach Mhòr and Beinn Udlamain, as well as considering continuing to A'Mharconaich and Geal-charn (different one this time) as the ascent was easy after the first munro. Me and my walking partner Leshan took off at around 08:45 from an A9 layby by the Highland county border. We made a our way down the path along the river and up the side of Sgàirneach Mhòr to the summit, which we reached around 11:00. Wind was high but the clouds had begun to clear to give us a view of Drumotcher Pass.
- This river is harder to cross than it looks, at least without getting water in our boots
By that point, Leshan didn't feel up for continuing the other munro(s), and so we chose to turn back. Taking the opportunity to slide down some snow patches. In a mix up in navigation, we ended up going off-route when we descended Sgàirneach Mhòr and spent the better part of 30 minutes trying to cross the river without getting water in our boots. The pair of us continued to the end point, making it there at 13:53.
