A leisurely Sunday afternoon hike up Tom Bailgeann with my Dad and the woofer dog.

We parked the car near the gate at the start of this route. I believe previously this had a police notice on it. Currently this notice is no longer on the gate, or any other notice.

The gate is locked but there is easy access on foot up the bank.

It is fairly steep going straightaway, however this gives great views over Loch Duntelchaig.

There is a well defined path most of the way up. Around half way up the path gets boggy. It was around freezing temperatures therefore the ground was pretty solid. However this maybe trickier in warmer weather. On the map it looks possible to take a slightly different route, which may avoid this so worth looking at other reports.

A last smallish climb takes you to the trig point right in front of the mast tower.

There is another cairn stone 50m to the North, which we took a walk over to. This gave cracking views of Loch Ness and over to the white Srathfarrers and Fannich Munros. Also nice views down the Great Glen fault line to the South West.

Quick pit stop for a few photos and a refreshment then back down the same way we came.

We were also treated to a show of Red Kites (I think they were anyway, my bird knowledge is terrible) soaring the skies. Four at one point.

All in all a nice afternoon.

Yes, they'll have been red kites, quite often get groups of them in that area. Can be quite a spectacular sight when you get a load of them together!
