Our first Munro and I was a bit nervous about this trip as I am a bit of a lazy mare. I got some shiny flash new walkign sticks in Ballater on the wayfrom the B&B which while Matt moaned that I got teh flash ones, he didn't moan much as at least I was doing it. We parked in the carpark and headed up the road. We went along the shores of the Loch and enjoyed a warmish though cloudy day. We passed Prince Charlies nice house and headed up the hill towards the waterfalls after a wee naviagational glitch... Up to the falls was not too bad, I think my sticks rock!! Bit of a huff and puff to the top of the falls andthen it smoothedout again. Stopped for the choccy break and some hot soup out the the fab hamper from the Ballater Deli. Would TOTALLY recommend one.
It got a bit harder as we headed up the slopes and there was a bit of snow to cross which made me a bit nervous. The path heads off to the left and round to summit, the wind up here was bitterly cold as it was coming off the surrounding snowy hills. Was a very quick summit photo and back> Lost the track a little on the return so the snow was kind of helpfull here as there was a big patch in front of us that we didn't pass on teh way up! We did a loop heading back a different way to which we'd come. This kind of sucked as it was stone steps for a long time - if I see another stone I will cry type long time. The only up was that we were heading to waht looked like a nice landrover track. BUT this trackturned out to be very rough and rocky and very hard on teh toes. It made for a very long nasty walkback to the car. I would go back the longer, waterfall way if I did this again. By the time we were getting back to the car I was absolutely shattered and was in bed at half 6 as soon as I'd had a shower!
