A Scottish Midweek Mountaineering Club meet to Rum bunkhouse, on the best weather forecast day of the week, headed up the path from the castle toward Coire Dubh, the initial 1.5km has been improved to access the islands hydro electric intake, and allows easy fast approach, from the intake the path deteriorates, but is still obvious, if a little damp underfoot. Once at Bealach Barcabhal, the route up Hallival is obvious, the track disappears but it is easy to find a route up through some crags to the summit. The initial descent is a little steep but easy enough to the green col to Askival, again from a routefinding point of view there seemed no obvious path but by keeping left the ground was easier and the summit was easily reached. Another steep descent to Bealach an Oir followed by a climb up to the twin summits of Trollaval, which was fogged in so continued a little west beyond the main top. As I felt my knee complaining a little, returned to Bealach an Oir, where I met and chatted with John, another club member, before dropping north to contour below Askival and Hallival, at about 375m, to return over Beallach Barcabhal and return to Kinloch
