Thought I would have a go at Greenside and Notman based on the beginning of the route suggested by some other WH'ers, ie. the Manor Water by Foulbrig path eg @jgregor.
Parked at the dam and set off along the side of the reservoir and from there headed up to the road. Based on the picture I had seen on a WH post I took a left rather than a right when I hit the road and wandered along a wee bit before thinking this is not right so headed back and right enough I should have taken a right since there was the sign post for the path.
- Th signpost
Headed over the stile and along the track.
Further along the track could see what I think was Molls Cleuch and the back of Lochcraig Head.
- Looking back along the track
After about 50mins reached the large of stones on the right just before the path to Blackrig.
- The pile of stones
Headed off the track along very faint paths towards the top of Greenside.
- A reminder this is grouse country
Patches of cloudberry flowers started appearing.
- Cloudberry flower
Continued cross-country. Lark pretended to be injured on the ground to lure me away from its nest. Went over the fence and then reached the little grouping of stones at the top of Greenside.
- Greenside stones
Went back to the fence to follow the faint ATV by the fence up to Notman.
- Fence and ATV up to Notman
- Looking down the cleuch into Manor valley at the col between Greenside and Water Head
Followed the ATV on the east side of the fence before heading over it to the west side and joining the more obvious ATV track on that side. Eventually reached a point where it made sense to head off-track so as to get to the top of Notman.
- Very faint straight diangonal line that led off the track right to the top of Notman.
Started entertaining ideas of going for Dollar Law after Notman since it was such a clear day and last time I was up Dollar with T it was just cloud and rain and could only see about 50 yards ahead.
- From top of Notman, looking over shoulder of Cramalt to Molls and Lochcraig
Had some lunch at top of Notman, felt good so headed towards Fifescar to meet up with the track again.
- Culter with Tinto behind from the col between Fifescar and Dollar
- Broad Law from the top of Dollar
- Looking N from top of Dollar
Headed back to the Fifescar col. Quite amazing views, feels very remote.
- Heading back along the track. This is the top of the cleuch on the E side of Fifescar
Went back to Megget via Cramalt Burn track.
- Looking down the Cramalt Burn track
Did not see a single soul on the hills at all the whole day.
