The weather was a lot more promising today than yesterday and the cloud stayed mostly high and the rain only came in short squalls, so a very pleasant day to complete the eastern 4 Munros in the group.
- High cloud and clear skies - looking good! View down to Loch Tay after clearing the trees.
- Beautiful day to be in the valley, unfortunately this is near where I turned off north for the long slog up the grassy slopes of Meall Greigh
- The slope up is pretty grinding, but the unfolding views are spectacular
- Rain squalls coming down over the corrie, with Ben Lawers, An Stuc and Meall Garbh in the background
- ..and the skies were clear 10 min later
- View of the eastern end of Loch Tay.
- The summit of Meall Greigh with the Lochan Nan Cat and the other 3 Munros behind
- Its a pretty long trudge round to Meall Garbh, with more fleeting rain showers blowing through, pretty much as forecasted.
- On the summit, with An Stuc in the background
- From the top of the tricky section on the short climb up to An Stuc
- The rock scrambling lower down is relatively straightforward but these sloping, muddy sections higher up that need a lot of care to avoid a slip
- But the views down onto Lochan nan Cat are spectacular
- On the summit with the final objective, Ben Lawers in the background.
- Looking back to An Stuc from the cairn on Creag An Fhithich, which is easy scrambling and not exposed.
- The final few metres
- The summit trig point
- The upper eastern ridge is rocky but straightforward
- And this soon changes into short-cropped grass for an easy descent following the broad ridgeline
- Pro-tip: from the bottom of the steeper ridgeline, follow the grassy sward to the right of this grey/white rock in the centre far view
- And there is a faint path through the grass that avoids all the peat groughs - this joins up to the main path near the burn.
- which leads pleasantly down to the bridge crossing just shortly above where I turned off to go up the slopes of Meall Greigh
A really great weather-window day for the Lochan Nan Cat circuit.
