Decided to have a solo day. Fran, Wilma, and June went to do another Munro.

What a great day I had. It dawned on me that this might be my last big day on the hills.

Dropping into Glen Kingie and ascending up onto the ridge is a mega, mega hellish slog. Nothing but wet uneven, grassy slog. I was not looking forward to repeating the process on the way back.

It had been a lovely day but had taken quite a while to get to the bealach. (Sports tracker is rubbish to locate this info. Was much better when I used the software for Suunto. Sports tracker does not make it easy to work this out. Suunto used too!)

Anyhoo, I timed my ascent and descent of the Corbet and it was only 25 mins to go up and down. It took so long on the way down as I forgot where I had left my bag and the weather was coming in (typical the one time i leave my bag)

As I reached my bag the heavens opened big time. Full waterproofs were on and it was hard to tell if it was just a really heavy shower or was here to stay for the day.

I need to get this Munro done regardless so up I went. I could see some people heading up further on in the distance.

It only took around 45mins to get from the bealach to the summit and the sun was coming out again just as I was arriving.

There was a lovely family with a huge st Bernard-type dog (the dog was HUUUUUGE). I'm not afraid of dogs but when that thing was barking and running towards me I was a little anxious....
Turns out he is only 18 months old and still growing  He managed to slaver all over my boots and jacket despite me giving him a bit of my pork pie. :D

It was such a lovely day I wanted to see if I could go around the ridge and pick up the other Corbet SGÙRR COS NA BREACHD-LAOIDH. From where I was and when looking at the map it might have been possible but would depend on the terrain on the push-up from An Eag. So I decided to go and check it out. If possible I thought it would be a much more pleasant return missing out the drop down into Glen Kingie and up again.

Lots of ups and downs to get to An Eag. When I got there and observed the strike-up i was feeling rather dubious it looked rather steep. There was a border wall that someone must have built at some point which was encouraging me. If Jim was with me we probably would have attempted it but given I was on my own I thought I should be sensible and return on the WH alternative route.

I found the alternative route down by accident when heading to An Eag, do you think I could find it again!!
Rather than waste any more time looking for it I struck down thinking I would pick it up further down, which I did, so I was much pleased and relieved. It's a funny path as it was grassy and zigzaggy. It surprised me how well-defined it was given that not many people would use this way to return or for any other reason.

The family had returned the same way we had come so they were well gone. I had added a lot of up and downs and an extra 7k otherwise this would have been a much shorter day.

Lovely day, got dark just as I was hitting the main road on Glen Dessary just by the bridge before the lodge, perfect!

Busy Glen lots of people coming and going at this hour of the night. (around 10.30 i got back to the car :-)

Only two to go (mixed feelings of exhilaration and sadness) :?

Oh wow! Not far now.
I know what you mean about sadness. I’m a wee bit behind you and seem to be slowing down my tick rate as I get closer to 282.

It took me two attempts to bag that Munro, given the tough going in Glen Kingie. Decided in the end to make it my compleation Munro. Rather regret not bagging the Corbett with the long name when I was there as well, but would have made it too long a day at the time.

Good luck with your final two.
