These hills do not receive a good press but I really enjoyed walking them, they are not difficult but when we walked them the wind was gale force strength and into our faces for a good part of the travers.

We started off with The Cairnwell walking up the path at the north end of the complex and climbing under one of the ski lifts. Found ourselves at the summit in about an hour and sheltered for a brief time from the elements in a small hut which only has room for 2 people. The views are good across to Carn a Gheoidh.

Retuned back down the hill to the col between The Cairnwell and Carn Aosda and headed for Carn a Gheoidh, this is a fairly long but easy walk with only a few very minor bumps to traverse. The elements were really against us here and it probably took us about 2 hours to get to the summit. Did not stay long here as we could barely stand up so cannot really offer any comments about the views !

We then retraced our steps, eventually reaching the track to Carn Aosda. A wee word of warning here....the track splits in two about 20-30 minutes from the summit, take the higher path as the other one heads downwards leaving you with further to climb as we discovered ! Good views at the very rocky summit down the glen. It is only 20 minutes from the summit back to the Car Park at the Ski Centre.

All in all a very enjoyable day's walking, do not be put off by the bad reports about these hills. We had a very enjoyable day in very changeable conditions.
