Staying in Tyndrum again this week and chose the best weather day to tackle Ben Challum.
My first Munro walk of 2024 and a chance to start getting legs and lungs back into shape.
I had no need for an early start so I set off from the layby opposite the entrance to Kirkton Farm at noon.
I crossed the bridge and briefly followed the West Highland Way down the lane to the farm
There's a useful sign with a picture of the Crianlarich hills just in case the weather is so bad that you can't see the actual hills:
I followed road around the front of the farm and then left the WHW and followed the track up onto the hillside. After a few hundred metres the track crosses the railway line and straight after that I headed for the deer fence (clear to see today but NE from the railway crossing otherwise).
I would follow the deer fence almost all the way to the top of the hill.
- Following the deer fence on the lower part of the hill
- The South top comes into view
- On this beautiful day it's easy to see the route alongside the deer fence to the top
- Fence coming to an end but South top within reach
Clear views all around
- Crianlarich hills
- Ben Lui and Tyndrum hills
- South top reached
Head on to the top
- Interesting ridge walk from South top to the true top
- Summit reached
Views as far as Ben Nevis
- Ben Nevis slightly right of centre on the horizon
