We camped for a couple of days by Stonethwaite Beck and had some adventures. Don't think that, on balance, we underestimated the difficulties of this challenging walk. Caroline, Chris, Hilary, Matthew and all the children (Emily, Mary, Ruth and Thomas) aged between six and three.

Ha Ha that's absolutely hilarious! Roped-up for the traverse of Knott Rigg . Still, it probably had a reassuring effect on the young kids 8)

Thanks Tin Man and Parasite.
Perhaps because of the absence of reliable data on fatalities, the dangers of Knott Rigg are often underestimated. Roping up the children reassured the parents.

There's something more 1986 about those photos.

Bonzo,
1996 was long enough ago; I was a child myself in 1986.

This is your daughter checking in here, Hillwalking Hilary!
Brilliant to see one of my earliest adventures in the mountains recorded!
I especially like the picture of us all setting out along the ridge. 8)
It was a good job that you roped us up!
