Set out to do Beinn Mheadhonach, but as I couldn't remember being on this side of Glen Tilt to do Carn a Chlamain back in the 60's, I thought it better to do a confirmation ascent of this Munro, as I'd already ticked it off on the list. Also the track up Chlamain seemed an easy way to make some height.
Biked up to Gilberts Bridge from the car park at Atholl. Walked up the glen to the soldiers bridge, then took a shortcut to meet the track. Toiled up the track to the top and over to Aonach nan Clach Moir.
Having read someones account of finding it difficult to cross the Alt Mhairc, I headed down towards a boggy patch & found a shallow part of the river which was fordable. A slog up on to the crest of the Beinn Mheadonach ridge was met by the incoming weather front. Wind and rain wasn't too bad on the descent down the long S ridge. Path good at the top, but lost it near the bottom, so just made a beeline for the bridge over the - now substantial Alt Mhairc. Nice walk round to Gilberts Bridge and a welcome (mostly) free wheel on the bike back to the car park, resting my - now weary legs.
Feeling the effects of the 4.30 start from Aberdeen - but had some awesome mince & tatties at the Moulin Hotel to fortify me for the trip back to Aberdeen - getting home at 8 pm. Nae bad for a pensioner !
