Central Cairngorm Beasts. Calling them beasts as top 10 highest hills in Scotland that 5 of them in central cairngorm national park, 4 in Nevis range plus number 10 Ben Lawers. 26 peaks covering all central Cairngorm 12 munros and 13 munro tops and 1 Corbett. Planed as a 4 days backpacking trip but managed in 3 days. Need good weather though. Set off 16th Aug 24 from linn of Dee car park at 7:40. Good track from the car park to Derry lodge 5.3k 1 hour, then standard WH route to Beinn Bhreac, west top then slightly off the track on way to Beinn a’ Chaorainn Bheag as trying to avoid unnecessary descent, but heyho, got to the top anyway with challenging bog tackle 🤣. The challenge was the high wind with my high rucksack, it was hard work! Would have been lot easier if wind not so high. Had to pitch earlier as I was on my knees to reach the summit battling with the high wind. Thought I find a best pitch I could get but really should had gone a little bit further. Anyway pitched then wind got stronger, pegs were lifted and poles were bending, I sorted semi fixed it with small rocks without having to go outside, I was worried about my Agnes not going to hold and snap, survived for the first night. Every sunny trip had a few stories lol, this time I managed to make a flood inside the tent, not sure somehow the water bladder valve not been closed properly and all 2L water drained out and formed a pool next to my head. I would give a 5 start to my phone that been merged in the pool for 4 hours before I took it out middle of the night. Had to get toe water out the tent, but didn’t realise the power bank shut itself down as in the same pool for 4 hours. So no power , had to same phone battery in flight mode to get over the next 2 days, and no photos. Realised the cameras were all moisted when I was trying to take picture of a tent pitched in the shelter south of Macdui. Took 24 hours for the moist to clear and the power bank also returned to function again. Day2- Don’t really meet people on Sunny route but Macdui are busy despite the wind , people coming from all directions! Suppose it is the second highest mountain in Britain, no wonder people are dreading to do it. I didn’t stay at the summit as usual because it is too busy. Carried on to very my Sunny Route forward , all good, still see people now and again when I cross the normal route. Took a short cut after Carn a’ Mhaim as Sunny likes the short cut( lol not all went well but some works), and it actually worked for once lol. Got to the Corrour bothy with reasonable time and marched on to Devil’s point and the Braeriach. What to complain?! Pitched up south of loch nan stuirteag, another 2 tents pitched further up the loch. Had a very late start on day3 as wind hauling and rain, only a short day today so had a long lie, started 10:45 , the other 2 tents still there. Walking in the mist rain and high wind, no view untill 2pm weather turn gorgeous had to strip clothes off! welcome to Scotland 4 seasons in a day. Descended to Glen Dee and successfully crossed river Dee without deboots , that’s a bonus! Then just Corbett to do before returning to car, the last section of descending Heather was not fine, apart from that gorgeous views over Mar lodge estate and the beasties.

Wow, what a journey! Facing the Cairngorm beasts in just 3 days is very impressive, especially with the wild weather and carrying a rucksack that seems like it's trying to walk you instead of you walking it. That water bag accident sounds very bad, but your phone staying safe is good news. Scotland really can give you all four seasons in just one day, right? Though it was tough, looks like you saw amazing sights and had a real adventure one to remember for sure!
