Smashing day in the Cairngorms despite little views from summits.

Parked at Auchcallater car park (£3 charge/donation) and followed Jocks Path right to Loch Callater

Followed track alongside loch and onto the floor of the glen. (Approx 3 miles from car park to Loch then another 3 and a bit from Loch ending to part where climb steepens)

Luckily for us, the glen wasn’t too boggy and the worst could be avoided but can’t say the same after some rain. We were accompanied by the deer bellowing and we finally got to see them up on the ridge

It does steepen for around 200m letting you then gain the ridge. The route to Tolmount is clear… in clear weather. We opted to include the Munro top - Crow Craigies so headed there first before then following a good noticeable path to Tolmount

The only way is up

After what feels like little effort and a short while later we then reached Tom Buidhe.

We had already decided to do the circuit instead of retracing our steps. Being so close to Cairn of Claise, it would have been rude not to have paid it a visit

From here a good track leads you all the way back down to the loch, just hang to the right hand path initially, as the left will take you to Cairn an Tuirc. From the loch, it’s a matter of following Jocks Road for the 3 miles back to the car!
