I took advantage of Scotrail’s club 50 £17 return fare promotion and went from Kintore (Aberdeenshire) to Galashiels in the Borders. Came back the next day

I love hill walking but really get tired of driving the distances / worrying about parking and so on. I just had to do a trip report to show off doing three great hills without a car.

Note:

Blue for rail, yellow for walking, red for bus - lines not quite accurate   :?

Also, my map is older than the new Tweedbank line which I think opened in 2015

Stage 1: Left Kintore at 6:40, arrived Edinburgh at 9:40 and onto the Tweedbank line to get off at Stow at 11am and walked up Sell Mor..Got back for the 12:59 train to Galashiels
Stage 2: Walked up Meigle hill and then headed back to bus station (interchange) for 3pm bus to Earlston to walk up Black hill
Stage 3: Back in Galashiels for a pint, meal, B&B then the 9:25 train to Edinburgh and then up north with no issues whatsoever. Well actually, we did get delayed by 2 minutes for leaves on the line..

Brilliant to see others being creative and leaving the car behind.
