Awesome November ascent of Mam Sodhail…. 07.45 start in the dark from Glen Affric car park, past Affric Lodge, and along loch side path. Started actual ascent, 3.5 miles along this route @ 09.00. Well defined rocky path, “Stalker’s path”, leads you relatively easily up the east side of the valley. We had low cloud, mist and poor visibility, but plodded on regardless in hope. Where it flattens out a bit below the col, we noticed it brightening, and literally walked out the top of the clouds. Onwards and upward via the switchback path to the saddle, and up the wide summit ridge, past an old square building structure, to the summit cairn. COMPLETE CLOUD INVERSION AT APPROX 3000ft

, HORIZON TO HORIZON….. Simply one of the most stunning views and experiences I’ve ever had in the mountains of Scotland or Northern Ireland. Views in every direction of white clouds with summits popping through. Could see Ben Nevis, (60 miles away), clearly, virtually on the horizon. Wouldn’t have had daylight time to cross over to Càrn Eige, so started descent. Cloud in the valley cleared, letting us actually see Loch Affric, and descended easily, with great views, back to loch side, and back to car park. An awesome day..!!
