Decided to go do this one and get it out of the way ASAP since missing the opportunity last weekend when we were in the area but that was for the best and could not be helped. We headed off Sunday morning and drove down and set off from the car park.
The weather this time was some what better than the last outing, a good bit warmer and hardly any wind in the valley. The walk is pretty straight forward with a longish ascend up a track to Mount Keen's Summit.
There were clouds in the sky and a lot of haze which at times was bad for photos but still a cracking day for being out walking and for getting to Mount Keen's summit. It was my Girlfriend's 3rd time out with us and was an easier walk for her than the last 2 we took her on (1st was LoD to Hutchesons Bothy up to Beinn Mheadhoin then over Derry Cairngorm & Down Carn Crom with full rucksacks(a bit tough LOL) & the 2nd was upto Corrour Bothy and Devils Point from LoD in rather poor weather conditions rain,Hail-stones and snow with strong winds). Theres not that much to see really walking along the track as there is on some other walks/hikes but got some nice photos all the same. You could see much farther if it were not for the clouds and the haze but we got good views of the Lochnagar area including Cac Carn Beag
and the ridge line of Bennachie
in the far distance. We took a break when we reached the summit
and had hot drinks and snacks.
We hung around for a while hoping for a break in the clouds for better photos at the top but it was not to be
.
The desend is as straight forward as the ascend and we took a break at the Queens Well
as the sun was coming through a patch in the clouds now and was fantastic. I find it amazing seeing all these parts of our Scottish history, our Heritage and Lands.
May we always be free to travel in them and see it's beauty, it's rawness, its uniqueness and it's gentle side. My Girlfriend enjoyed the walk more than the previous 2 as it was some what easier on the day overall. All in all a wonderfull day out.
