This walk was a year ago, but might be of interest to Top-collectors or others interested in an alternative round of Creag Meagaidh.
I'd been up Meggie before, the more usual way into Coire Ardair, but that day the visibility had been poor, so I was keen to go back in better weather and to visit the Tops to the south and east of the main summit.
The weather was cold with good snow cover above 600m with an inversion forecast, so I decided on a super early start to be on the first summit by sunrise.
I'd ummed and ahhhed about the route for a while the night before, before settling on heading west up into the east corrie of Sron a Choire. I'd been thinking about the steepness of the ground, snow conditions and avalanche risk. But the SAIS forecast for the day had indicated low risk to eastern aspects and the snow of the week before had by now mostly consolidated. And as it turned out a nicely frozen ATV track took me to about 650m…
…then following what felt like a naturally good line to the south of the stream which drains the corrie, took me up above the clouds into the corrie with no problems, some footprints and tracks of a skier reassuring me.
From there it was on with the crampons and out with the axe for a bit of zig zag up some nice neve onto the shoulder of Sron a Choire for a beautiful sunrise.
After that a great ridge walk, with some excellent views of Coire Ardair …
…and then around the Moy Corrie, involving a wee bit of out and back to pick up the two outlying Tops, the inversion holding nicely.
Then, as it was such a nice day, across to the main summit of Meggie, before heading around to The Window, saying goodbye to the sunshine and putting the crampons on again for security on the steep descent, and then a very enjoyable walk out along the excellent path from Coire Ardair back to the car park.
