The weather forecast looked good for the morning but due to recent rainfall a hill with good path seemed the order of the day - decided on Ben Lomond. Started walking at 6.45am and headed up the Ptarmigan path. The morning was beautiful.

The views start opening up

Quite a few orchids beside the path

Another one!

After a few zig zag climbs the "ridge" is reached.
SSL16829.JPG
Good dry path despite all the rain

Looking ahead mist is gathering around the summit :( - I press on hoping to avoid the worst of it.

Mist enveloping the summit

Views of the Arrochar hills, cloud on the tops today

Looking back down on the path as the climb steepens

Cloud sweeping across

The rest of the walk was in the white stuff - very dry but no visibility. :(
Not sure if the fact that I couldn't see down helped or hindered me - felt a little exposed for a few moments - it hit me then that my dreams to complete all of the Munros may be a tad optimistic :? - but hey, no point worrying about that yet, plently to do along the way.

Summit reached in 2 hours 15

I hung about for a bit to see if it would clear as the sun was trying to burn it off but think I would have had to wait over an hour - so had my tea and headed off down the tourist path. Guess I will have to go back!

Cloud lifted over Arrochar

About half an hour down I started passing a stream of people going up - they would prob get to see the views :(
Back to the car and, although such a shame to have missed the views, I loved being up there alone!
And home in time for lunch and Wimbledon

Nice report and some cracking pics - think that is the first time I have seen a report on this hill where you're not surrounded by tourists so at least you got something (even if you missed the views) :D

Nice report Moutainjudrop.
Love the Orchids. I suggest this will not be the first or last munro where you see nothing from the summit   We have all been there. Don't worry about compleating just enjoy as you bag them :D Nice photos. :D

It looks very peaceful and the orchids are gorgeous. I'd be afraid if I couldn't see where I was going! One of my Munro fears, as a newbie.

Finding the path isn't a much of a problem on Ben Lomond !! but yes it is very disorientating to find yourself in cloud :?

When I was up there the puddle around the trig point was a small lake and I was soaked to the skin. Happily they had a fire in the Rowardennan. Like the orchid pics - for a minute I thought that the Day of the Triffids had arrived.

Nice report, so lucky to have that summit in particular to yourself. When I did it I had it for about 5 minutes only but loved it.

Wow, Ben Lomond on your own. Maybe I will do it soon then. Crowds of people on a Munro just doesn't sit well with me.
