Beinn a'Chaorainn: Some Nice Rocks

Day 2 of the Granite City Hillwalkers June meet and as predicted the weather was a huge improvement on the Saturday. It was back to Loch Laggan for Kay & me. Kay had done Beinn Teallach and we both wanted a fairly short day so Beinn a'Chaorainn it was. Not too much to report really. Having been greeted by swarms of midges when we stepped out on the hut thankfully the initial 2 km through the forest was free of the little b*****s. We did spot the cut through the forest as recommended on this site but it was a total quagmire so we kept to the track. This comes out near the river - bear right, over a deer fence high style, though a small field & then head for the hill.

Initial impressions weren't great - just a big grassy hump. And the nearby Beinn Teallach didn't impress either. What a contrast to its near namesake. But it was a lovely day and the going easy. But once we got to the southern summit (after a leisurely 2hr 15min) my opinion improved as we were treated good views and craggy eastern aspect of the hill made you feel you were on an actual mountain.

Its only a 10-15 min stroll over to the true summit where we had our lunch. And then back the way we came. I'd noticed that the lichens near the southern summit we really vivid so stopped to take a view piccies of these on the way back. So, to the piccies...


Loch Treig Munros - to the left of Loch Treig is Stob Coire Sgriodain (979m), while to the right are Stob a'Choire Mheadhoin (1,105m) with Stob Coire Easain (1,115m) poking out behind it.

Fab pictures, Alastair. Lucky with the weather I did these two Munros last year in gray and cloudy conditions - nice to see how they look in full sunshine.
